The northern Indian city of Chandigarh is a union territory and the capital of the Punjab and Haryana states. Being a union territory, the city is not a part of either state and is directly governed by the Union Government of India.
Renowned French architect Le Corbusier designed Chandigarh, the ideal city of India's first prime minister, Sh. Jawahar Lal Nehru. Situated in the picturesque foothills of the Shivaliks, it is regarded as one of India's greatest twentieth-century experiments in contemporary architecture and urban planning.
Makki di Roti, Sarson ka Saag, Palak Paneer, Kadhi, and Punjabi Lachha Parantha are some of the most popular dishes in traditional Chandigarh cuisine.
Chandigarh is often said to as India's first planned city. The Radcliffe Line granted Lahore to Western Punjab (present-day Pakistan) following the British division of Punjab. Punjab, a state in India, was thus left without a capital.
There are Sadar Bazaars in many Indian cities, but few can compare to Chandigarh's in terms of the caliber and assortment of things offered. Because of the vast array of products that are always offered for sale, it is renowned as one of Chandigarh's greatest shopping marketplaces.
