Situated in the foothills of the Himalayas and tucked away in the undulating Doon Valley, Dehradun is only 240 kilometers from Delhi and is encircled by towering mountains and verdant Sal woods. The city is a starting point for a number of well-known hill stations, including Mussoorie, and pilgrimage sites, including Haridwar and Rishikesh. It is also renowned for its beautiful surroundings and good year-round weather. The city is the educational center of northern India and is home to famous schools like Welham and Doon School, which is the alma mater of notable figures including Olympian Abhinav Bindra, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, and well-known author Amitav Ghosh. This is also the location of the Indian Military Academy.
Due to its tranquil surroundings, it is a popular tourist site that draws pilgrims, tourists, and enthusiasts from all walks of life. In addition, the city is transformed into a wonderland by the profusion of unique Basmati rice, tea, and leechi gardens. Dehra Dun, the district's capital, is the source of its name.
The most well-liked dishes in Dehradun include "Chole," a popular meal eaten with vegetables; "Bajre ki roti," or puffed rice; "Gur Ka Paneer," or spinach and cheese dumplings; "Chawal," or crispy fried potatoes seasoned with spices; and "Kathak maas," or grilled chicken with garlic and ginger.

By road, the 254-kilometer trip from Dehradun to Kedarath takes about six hours. Summer and spring are the ideal seasons to visit Kedarnath because of the mild temperatures, which often range from 15 to 30 degrees Celsius.
